I just got back home from dinner with some friends of mine from high school/college. It was a nice little potluck gathering; they made food, I brought wine (fair trade, y'know?). Now, we all know that mixing alcohol and friends brings out random convos, but this one was pretty intriguing. We ended up stumbling upon the topic of ODing.
Now, ODing can be several things. The straight-up definition, overdosing, refers to when someone (i.e., John Belushi, Chris Farley, Marilyn Monroe, etc.) mixes too strong of a drug/alcohol cocktail, and keels over for life, or death in these examples. However, "ODing" as a Black people term refers to when something is larger than life, or beyond the point of reason.
This topic first came up when Margot, who is a teacher, was mentioning some of the terms her middle school students use at her to try to kick game (a la "Superman that ho"), and mentioned how they complain about her assigning "OD homework assignments". Our hostesses, Jenny and Jannah, were dumbfounded as to the concept of "ODing" in this regard.
I know we already clarified this over dinner, but for their sakes (and my readerships'), I will demonstrate some examples of ODing as practiced in the real world, after the jump.
